The last three months brought a lot of changes to health insurance. We want to thank every one of you for your patience dealing with plan changes and re-enrollment. We are now in whats considered a lock in period. that means, the plan you have should remain in place for the remainder of this year. There are exceptions. Birthday Rule. For those Over age 65 and on Medicare, remember, you have 30 days before or after to change your Medicare Supplement plan, to another at the same level or less coverage, with no health underwriting. That means, no health questions, you cannot be denied for pre-existing conditions. Special Needs Plan For those on Medicare, if you are diagnosed with a chronic condition, you can enroll in an Advantage plan specially designed for your diagnosis. These plans are normally available to you at anytime of the year. Moved. In many cases, when you move, your choices for health insurance change. Whether you are under 65 or over, you may have a chance to change your Medicare plan due to moving to a new service area. Don’t trust your current health plan to select your new plan. they probably won’t tell you about all the options available to you. Life Changing Event. For those under age 65, a life changing event often changes your healthcare needs. moving, change in job, change in income, getting married or divorced, having a child, etc. all of these situations are possible reasons for a special enrollment period, allowing you to change your health insurance plan.
